Richard A. Lewis
Leader, Absence Management Group
Mr. Lewis is an acknowledged thought leader in the field of total absence, integrated disability and productivity management, and leads Hewitt LCG’s Absence Management program. His career includes Managing Director of Price Waterhouse’s integrated disability, workers’ compensation and health care consulting practice; Leader of MetLife’s disability business, where he successfully integrated MetLife’s and Travelers’ disability operations; and, founder and CEO of Thomas L. Jacobs and Associates, a pioneering firm that led the industry in implementing integrated disability claim management, and provided claim management services to over 50 Fortune 500 clients as well as to insurers and governmental agencies.
He is co-founder of the National Disability Management Conference (now the Joint Forum on Health, Productivity and Human Capital), and a charter member of the National Business Group on Health’s Council on Employee Health and Productivity (CEHP). As a CEHP member, he has chaired the Council’s Technical Advisory Board, and has been a major contributor to the preparation of the Employer Measures of Productivity, Absence and Quality (EMPAQ) technical manual, which provides metrics definitions, methodology and tools for managing total absence and productivity programs.
Mr. Lewis has an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Economics from Wesleyan University.
Edward L. Anderson, M.D.
Leader, Business and Product Development, Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Anderson leads Hewitt LCG’s Business and Product Development initiatives, and serves as Chief Medical Officer, supporting claim and leave operations, and being responsible for all clinical aspects of the absence management program. He is the architect of Hewitt LCG’s strategic applications in total absence and productivity management, and has had a leading role in the devising and developing of the Nucleus technology platform as well as providing the design and leadership of the absence management clinical claim model.
Previously, Dr. Anderson served as Vice President of Health Services and Chief Medical Officer for Bell Atlantic Corporation, where he led their Health and Productivity Management program for 75,000 employees that received the 1997 Leadership Award from the Washington Business Group on Health, now the National Business Group on Health. Dr. Anderson has published on health information management systems as well as the impact of organizational climate on accident and disability rates. With 28 years’ experience in disability case management, as well as the development of disability management systems, he is a recognized expert in clinical disability management, and informatics applied to total absence management.
Dr. Anderson is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine and is board certified in internal medicine. He is a member of The American College of Physicians and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Michael J. Dunst
Leader, Claim and Leave Operations
Co-founder of Disability Management Alternatives, Hewitt LCG’s third party disability and leave of absence claim administrator, Mr. Dunst heads Hewitt LCG’s claim and leave operations.
He has spent over twenty years in the insurance industry focusing primarily on the areas of finance and operations. Earlier in his career, he worked for CIGNA in a variety of roles, starting in the reinsurance division and ending up at the helm of a new CIGNA venture, Disability Claims Services, Inc. (DCSI). Mr. Dunst has focused most of his career servicing large self-insured employers who required assistance managing their disability and leave programs. In 1996, Mr. Dunst co-founded DMA, a full service third party administrator, where he managed the company’s finances, operations, and information technology.
Mr. Dunst holds an MBA in Finance from St. Joseph’s University and a BS in Accounting from Villanova University.
Michael C. Neal, MPH
Leader, Technology and Analytics
Mr. Neal has 15 years of disability management industry experience with Fortune 100 employers. He has been responsible for a number of disability and absence management service centers throughout the United States, and has maintained senior client relationships with the large employer market. He possesses extensive knowledge of absence and disability management systems and reporting, and leads Hewitt LCG’s technology and analytics initiatives.
Most recently, he has provided health and productivity consulting, specializing in operational analytics, quality management and productivity solutions, for both suppliers of disability services as well as employers.
Mr. Neal has a Master’s in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Boston University, and a BA in Chemistry from the University of Virginia.
